Dave Hickman brings a diverse background to the Macktown board, combining experience in IT with hands-on skills in construction and heavy equipment operations. A passionate advocate for history, Dave believes in the famous adage, "Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it." This conviction drives his commitment to preserving Macktown for future generations. He is inspired by the words of Carl Sagan: "You have to know the past to understand the present."
Throughout his career, Dave has worked in both blue-collar and white-collar roles, giving him a unique perspective and appreciation for people from all walks of life. He envisions Macktown as a place where everyone feels welcomed and included, a place where history comes alive. His hope is to transform Macktown into the premier living history site in America, attracting visitors from across the country. "It may sound ambitious," he says, "but someone once told me to aim for the stars, because if you miss and land on the moon, that's a pretty good view from there!"
One of Dave’s favorite aspects of Macktown is the ability to walk along the river and discover artifacts newly revealed by the water—a tangible connection to the past that he hopes to share with visitors for years to come.
And a quick tip: Don’t ask Dave for a serious photo—he can’t take one! If you are looking for him around Mackton he's probably rocking some denim overalls.
